Analysts have named the most popular motorcycles among Russians of the season

How do we choose motorcycles? We estimate the cost, availability of spare parts and the complexity of maintenance, read reviews, arrange “surfing” on ads. Analysts of the Auto.ru service checked the ad database for the period from January to September to find out which motorcycle models Russians were most often interested in. Partner-Moto was told about this in the press service of the service.

Restrictions have affected demand

The current 2020 has been a difficult year for many. Earlier, we talked about how the restriction regime affected the accident rate in the first half of 2020. But the pandemic has affected consumer demand as well. So, according to the study, from January to September they were interested in motorcycles 18% less often than in the same period in 2019. At the same time, the interest of buyers shifted to a later date. If earlier the surge in activity occurred in the first half of the year, then compared to last year, Russians were less interested in motorcycles in March-April. But demand increased again in May-June.

Top popular motorcycles

Analysts of the Auto.ru service shared with Partner-Moto the results of statistics, which show which motorcycle models aroused the most interest among Russian buyers for the period from January to September 2020.

The top ten most popular models are mainly Honda motorcycles. The top is headed by the good old Honda CB 400. A simple and unpretentious bike, which is very much loved by urban motorcyclists, especially beginners. Small engine displacement, huge number of parts and affordability are what, in my opinion, put this model on a pedestal.

The second place is taken by the Yamaha YZF R6 – a popular sport bike that has earned the love of drivers over the years of model development. A spirited and responsive six hundred cube engine … good balance for an urban motorcycle rider who has one foot or thoughts on the track.

The third place is taken by the same reliable and well-known sports bike as the previous one, the Honda cbr600rr. The model has firmly established itself in the hearts of sports bike fans since 2003. It is known that the Honda cbr600rr won the championship in the Supersport class seven times in a row. It is clear why he is in the top three.

The only non-Japanese in the top 10 is the Harley-Davidson Sportster. A motorcycle that is called the epitome of American freedom. Authentic custom styling combined with a V-engine. Great street bike, power and confidence for those who love the biker lifestyle and loud exhaust sound.

Among the popular models, it would be strange not to see the most famous “sofa” – the Honda GL1800. The Gold Wing 1800 succeeded its predecessor in 2001. Since its inception, the club of his fans has not diminished. This year, this bike is ranked seventh on the 2020 season list.

It is strange that other major motorcycle manufacturers – BMW, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and others – did not break into the top ten.

Domestic and Eastern European motorcycles

Yes, we do not have a great choice among domestic motorcycles. It is curious that not at all modern “Urals” aroused the greatest interest of buyers. The first line was taken by IMZ 8.103-10, the one with reverse gear. This “tank” was produced from 1988 to 1993.

It is difficult to judge how pragmatic and logical it is to choose in modern times Izh “Planet” and “Jupiter”, “Ural” or “Dnepr” familiar from childhood, because this is a matter of personal choice. Yes, these motorcycles are our history, they need to be preserved. However, objectively, they are not competitive on public roads in the 21st century.

Past life motorcycles are now in demand among restorers and customizers. There are also those who like to twist the nuts, torment themselves with the carburetor, shout into space from being hit by a kickstarter on early ignition … This prompted some sellers to demand fabulous sums for bikes from grandfather’s garage, arguing with the phrase: “This is retro!”

One way or another, the “Planet” and “Jupiter” motorcycles took the second and third places in the list. There was also a place for Jawa motorcycles.

What will be the demand for the next season – time will tell. Let’s see if the 2021 top 10 is more motley or if Honda doesn’t give up the lead.
