KTM and CFMOTO continue cooperation

Like many Europeans looking to grab a piece of the Indian and Asian market, Pierer Mobility has partnered with two local giants, Bajaj and CFMOTO, to ensure the expansion of the KTM and Husqvarna brands into Asia will be handled by skilled professionals.

The partnership with the Indian motorcycle giant Bajaj primarily implies the joint development of electrical equipment (at least for now), but in cooperation with CFMOTO, medium-sized two-cylinder platforms will be developed.

Partnership details

In a recent H1 2020 investor report, Pierer revealed details of its partnership with CFMOTO. According to the report, the Chinese giant will not only be the only authorized distributor of KTM products in China, but will soon release a joint development with the Austrian concern – the long-awaited CFMOTO MT800 touring vehicle. The new model will be based on the Austrian mid-cubic in-line two. And we are talking about the engine that was used in the 790s, and not about the new 890. The start of sales of new items is expected at the beginning of 2021.

Pierer Mobility also announced plans to increase the level of engagement with CFMOTO, in particular to develop an all-new 750 Duke range, 750 Adventure and 750 Supermoto T. And most importantly, these will not be models for the Chinese market, but an expansion of the global model range. However, the Austrians are still silent about the timing of the release of the new line.

There is almost no information on the new models, but judging by the meaning of the partnership between KTM and CFMOTO, we can expect that all three models will be equipped with a 750cc (or so) two-cylinder in-line, and for the Chinese market they will probably be released under the CFMOTO brand.

By the way, in the illustrated KTM product line, you can see a blurred model in the Supermoto and Dualsport sections. Judging by the appearance of the 790 Adventure R and 890 Duke R in 2019 and the fact that KTM does not plan to discontinue production of the 790 platform, we should expect a new model expanding one of the two mid-range rulers – it could be either the 790 SMC or dualsport on the 890th engine.

And most importantly, there is not much time left until the end of the year, and it is very likely that interesting news awaits us this fall!
