Motorcycle Airbag Tax Bonus
How do you like the idea of a wearable airbag for riding a motorcycle? Planning a purchase? Or is it too expensive yet? The Italians are in a sense lucky: on December 27, 2020, the Italian government approved a bill according to which those who bought an EU-certified airbag will face a significant tax cut!
The current version of the regulation suggests that 50 percent of the price of an EU-certified air cushion protective element will be reimbursed in the form of a tax bonus. The bonus cannot exceed the limit of 250 euros, but this is also a good New Year’s surprise for those who take care of themselves and their loved ones.
The author of the bill was the architect Graziella Viviano, together with a group of motorcyclist lawyers. The work began with a tragedy: Viviano’s daughter died in 2018 in a motorcycle accident caused by the loss of control due to the disgusting quality of the roadway in Rome. According to many, the girl would have survived if she was wearing an airbag.
The girl’s family turned their anger and the pain of loss into a positive direction in order to help the living motorcyclists in Italy. And apparently, their efforts were not in vain: the bill approved on December 27 will help many find the amount required to buy an airbag. True, according to some reputable motorcycle publications, the amount of the tax bonus can be reduced to 20 or 30 percent, but even such support can become a significant argument in favor of the airbag, and ultimately save someone’s lives.
Of course, it’s one thing to buy an airbag, and quite another to wear it. Someone does not leave without full equipment, and someone sometimes does not even wear a helmet. Let’s hope that such a purchase will help at least someone to part with a little bit of frivolity.
