Motorcyclist injuries are no joke. First part.

The first and most important argument, which is very difficult to dispute in the controversy over the right to ride a motorcycle, is the level of injuries and deaths. As soon as you stutter about your dream of having a two-wheeled friend and no, not a bicycle or a scooter … someone immediately starts to peck at you:

-You will crash!

– I’m not going to visit you in the hospital!

-And if you fall?

– After slipping, you saw people at all ?!

-Do you want to ride a wheelchair then?

And panic, panic! You already curse the moment when you decided to share your idea. The fears of ordinary people, of course, are not without reason. Unfortunately, the percentage of fatalities and injuries among motorcyclists and their passengers is really scary. If you talk with doctors or rescuers, with traffic police officers, you will find out that motorcyclist accidents are distinguished from all others by their pronounced seasonality.

The main peak of accidents occurs at the opening and closing of the season, because the rubber warms up poorly, few people want to see motorcyclists on the roads, tea is not summer outside. However, in the summer, pilots are seriously injured due to the fact that they do not wear equipment under the pretext of heat.

What are the common causes of injury?

If you go into statistics and sort it out on the shelves, then you can highlight several points:

  • Injuries sustained from moving parts of the motorcycle (whether it be riding or unsuccessful DIY repairs)
  • Injuries as a consequence of collisions with both moving objects and static
  • Fall injuries

We will not analyze the injuries sustained from the moving parts of the motorcycle, because these are very individual cases from the category: yes, I know that sticking your fingers into the chain of a running motorcycle is a bad idea, but I just have to see. Most often it pinches fingers, hair or beards get caught in moving parts, hands get stuck, for example, in a cylinder (no matter what you forgot there, but once you got stuck, it was something valuable), and of course, getting your feet into a wheel. The classic is the passenger’s foot slipping into the rear wheel. Plus bonuses in the form of burns on hot parts of the motorcycle.

There is another classification by which the causes of injury are determined:

  • Friction injuries (a classic example is a slipper)
  • Thermal and chemical burns
  • Impact injuries
  • Compression injuries
  • Twisting injuries
  • Stab and cut wounds

Serious damage to the body can be obtained even at low speed, contrary to the general opinion that it is speed that kills.

Speed ​​certainly affects injuries, but this does not mean that it is absolutely everything. Although the laws of physics, such as the interaction of speed and mass, giving a force that breaks bones in an accident, has not been canceled.

What injuries do motorcyclists and passengers get?

If you answered “all” or “any,” then it’s hard to disagree, because it’s hard to find an injury that no one on a motorcycle has received.

General categories of injury:

  • Skin lesions
  • Muscle damage
  • Ligament and joint injuries
  • Bone fractures
  • Fractures and injuries of the spinal column
  • Damage to internal organs and blood vessels
  • Damage to the central nervous system (as a consequence of other more severe injuries)

Of course, I don’t want to think about the sad, but we have to realize that the danger of motorcycle life is not an invention. This, by the way, is also in the top of the reasons for buying a motorcycle – excitement, the smell of danger, walking on a blade – some pilots have a pleasant nerve tickle.
